EGT Gauge

EGT stands for exhaust gas temperature, and is the single most important indicator of how a diesel engine is performing. Unlike a petrol motor, a diesel motor will continue to make power as more fuel is added. As more fuel is added, heat will be generated until the motor just gets too hot and things start to melt. If the exhaust temps gets too high, it can cause an unfortunate and expensive turbo failure and possible engine failure.

Excessive heat can cause the turbo blades to straighten out and give no boost, or at worst will cause the blades to melt and ruin the turbo.

This gauge comes as a kit that includes a thermocouple, wiring loom and 1/4" connection.

Boost Gauge

The boost gauge will indicate how much pressure the turbocharger is generating. By monitoring the boost pressure you will be able to know that your engine is running at peak efficiency. It can also alert you to any problems, for example, if the waste gate sticks closed, over boost will occur. You will see this on the gauge and be able to fix the problem before a hose bursts or bottom end damage occurs like a crank or connecting rod.

Two gauges are available, with ranges of 0-15 or 0-30psi. Each gauge also comes with a nut and cone and 3/16" PVC tubing.

Transmission Temperature Gauge

This gauge measures the fluid temperature in automatic TDI vehicles. As the torque converter slips, it generates heat. As the fluid flows through the torque converter it will absorb some of this heat. The fluid flows across many other parts that generate heat. Gears, bearings, & clutch disc to name a few. Having a temperature gauge to watch this will allow you to back off the accelerator before excessive temperatures are reached. Watching the heat in your transmission and not exceeding its limits will help to prevent future transmission failures.
